Vimeo video: The music, song and dance of Ireland in sound and images
Turas is an audio-visual music documentary which vividly links Traditional music and place in Ireland. Uniquely, it presents tunes named for towns and features in each one of the thirty two counties of the island of Ireland, and the Diaspora areas. The music in Turas is played in solos, duets and ensemble, covering twenty different tune-and song types. Most of the music and song is old, but some is by present-day composers, included to show that the art-form is thriving and contemporary. Seven hundred images illustrate almost two hours of this music, a vivid narrative which covers the people, organisations, events and publications in Irish music, selected to reflect on the places for which individual tunes were named by their players back in the 1800s
